Sam Shankland clear first in the Northern California International

The 2012 Northern California International was held from 2nd to 8th January, 2012, at the NorCal House of Chess at Northwestern Polytechnic University in Fremont, California.

Following the tradition of Berkeley International, the tournament offered the possibilities for obtaining GM and IM norms.

Intel to launch biggest ad campaign in 8 years

LAS VEGAS (AP) ? Intel Corp. says it is betting big on its "ultrabook" concept with its largest advertising campaign since 2003.

The campaign to push the new thinner and lighter notebook computers will start in April, says Kevin Sellers, Intel's head of advertising. Sellers didn't say how much Intel Corp. would spend on the ads and other initiatives. He spoke to the press on Monday, ahead of the opening of the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Intel hasn't planned a launch this big since the company introduced Centrino chips for Wi-fi-capable laptops eight years ago.

Though it chiefly makes processors, Intel often prods PC makers to build their products in certain ways. The "ultrabooks" are similar to Apple's MacBook Air, which launched three years ago. PC makers have responded well to the ultrabook idea, and Intel says there are 75 models on the way. The Consumer Electronics Association expects 30 to 50 ultrabook models to be on display at CES.

More news is expected out of Intel on Tuesday, when CEO Paul Otellini speaks at the show. Intel watchers expect that the news will have something to do with the company's long-standing ambition to get its chips into smartphones.

Teens To Collect Canned Food At Tulsa's Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade

TULSA, Oklahoma -

This year's Martin Luther King Parade on January 16th will include a food drive benefiting the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. REV Tulsa, a teen group, is hosting the canned food drive.

A Food Bank truck will travel the parade route, and there will be additional collections at two sites along the parade route.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. Detroit and John Hope Franklin Boulevard, continuing down Greenwood Avenue to East Archer Street and North Elgin Avenue. See the parade route.

EV Tulsa teens are inviting the community to join them at ONEOK Field to collect and sort canned food that will go to Oklahomans struggling with hunger.

Food Bank Communications Director Susan Tilkin said the high school students had the idea of merging the parade and food bank drive, showing "the power and energy young people today have in making their community a brighter and safer place for all."

"This group is very proactive and deeply engaged in both volunteering and making a difference, and the Food Bank couldn't be prouder that REV Tulsa chose to address childhood hunger as their action for the upcoming Martin Luther King Day holiday," she said.

If you can't make the parade, cans are being collected at eight area high schools: Booker T. Washington, Edison, Holland Hall, Bishop Kelley, Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences, Metro Christian, Jenks and Union.

All food will be distributed to a 24-county area by the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

CODA selects Del Grande as Northern California dealer

CODA Automotive, a US-based electric vehicle manufacturer, has selected Del Grande Dealer Group (DGDG) as a dealer for selling the company's new CODA 2012 sedan in Northern California, US.

The company said that the unveiling of new dealership's first CODA-branded showroom at Northern California is scheduled to open in March this year.

While CODA expands its automotive line of business, DGDG also expects to spread out to other locations all over the East Bay, Mid-Peninsula, Sacramento, and San Francisco.

CODA Holdings CEO Phil Murtaugh said with more than 40 years of experience in serving the Bay Area, and an outstanding reputation for service, sales and community relations, DGDG is the ideal partner for the progressive and fast growing Bay Area electric vehicle market.

DGDG president Shaun Grande said Northern California is the perfect location for the launch and proliferation of the CODA 2012 sedan.

"We can't wait to introduce the EV to the community of enthusiastic drivers who seek independence from fossil fuel," Grande said.

The company's new CODA 2012 sedan is an all-electric five-passenger, mid-size sedan equipped with a battery pack and a 6.6kW onboard charger.

The company said that the new Sedan meets all the American drivers' daily transportation needs without an ounce of gasoline.

The new CODA 2012 sedan will be unveiled at Silicon Valley International Auto Show held at San Jose, California, US.

Google TV adds LG to the fold, will demo new hardware along with Sony, Vizio (update: video, pics!)

The second round of Google TV hardware will be in full swing at CES 2012, and the folks at Mountain View just officially announced LG is joining the list of hardware partners at the show. While we know Logitech was taking a pass on the latest hardware, previously announced partners Samsung, Sony and Vizio are still in and the latter two will have new hardware to show next week. While this morning's announcement by Marvell revealed the platform's switch to ARM processors from the Intel chips it launched on, the company mentioned MediaTek is also on board to build compatible chipsets, while the line of products from LG will run on the company's own L9 setup. LG's press release (included after the break) reveals the HDTVs it's bringing out will feature its Cinema 3D FPR technology as well as support for a "Magic Remote QWERTY" that combines its gesture and voice control Magic Remote with, you guessed it, a QWERTY keyboard. It will have two lines of TVs based on the Android OS, while it continues to feature its own NetCast setup in other displays. While Samsung is mentioned as building new devices, it does not appear they'll have any to show off just yet, which matches the rumors that had gone around earlier.

Update: LG has posted some pics of the Google TV sets (above, after the break) featuring its custom interface, although we're still waiting for a peek at that remote. According to the company, users will have the option of using LG's UI or the default Google TV build, so whichever way you prefer should work. The Google TV team has also uploaded a fresh trailer on YouTube ahead of CES, featuring several apps and promising this is just the beginning -- check it out embedded after the break.
