Alex Gordon doing his part to help young Husker fan - KansasCity.com

Royals left fielder Alex Gordon is a Husker through and through.

Gordon was born in Lincoln and played for the Cornhuskers? baseball team before being drafted in 2005 by the Royals following his junior year.

Gordon?s father Mike also played baseball at Nebraska, while older brother Eric played at Nebraska-Omaha and his grandfather Charlie is a former coach at Lincoln Southeast High School.

So it?s no surprise that Gordon was touched by that video of 7-year-old cancer patient Jack Hoffman busting off a 69-yard touchdown run in the Nebraska football team?s spring game.

Hoffman has had multiple brain operations and has endured weeks of chemotherapy. His family helped form the Team Jack Foundation, which is committed to substantial money for the ?sole purpose of funding relevant pediatric brain cancer research.?

Now Gordon is going to do his part. On its website, the Team Jack Foundation announced it will create a T-shirt with Gordon?s name and the proceeds will support pediatric brain cancer research.

?I have followed Jack?s story from the day I saw his infamous touchdown run in Memorial Stadium and I was extremely moved,? Gordon told the Omaha World Herald. ?He inspires me everyday to go out and work hard in everything I do. Jack has been a leader for thousands of others affected by pediatric brain cancer, and I just wanted to do anything I could to help the fight.?

The World Herald also reported that Gordon?s family is expected to sport the new shirts next week during the All-Star Game festivities at Citi Field in New York. This will be the first All-Star Game for Gordon, who is a two-time Gold Glover winner.

The shirts, which cost $20, can be found here
