A private basketball coach accused of sexually assaulting one of his students was released from the Spartanburg County jail on a $50,000 bond Tuesday afternoon.

Spartanburg County Magistrate James Ashmore set the bond amount and placed numerous conditions for release on Anthony Bernard Jenkins, 50, during a hearing Tuesday morning.

Jenkins, of 265 S. High Point Road, is charged with one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. A former Clemson University basketball standout who also played professionally in Europe, Jenkins trained students from around the world, according to police.

Ashmore prohibited Jenkins from having any contact with the victim?s family. Jenkins can have no contact with minor children under the age of 16 unless the child?s adult legal custodian is present. Jenkins is prohibited from going into any establishment where minors under 16 frequent regularly, and Jenkins can?t contact anyone under 16 using social media. Also, Jenkins must surrender his passport and can?t leave the state without permission from the court.

According to Spartanburg County sheriff?s detectives, the victim said she started taking basketball lessons from Jenkins when she was 14 and that Jenkins began assaulting her shortly afterward. The assaults continued until she was 18 and are believed to have occurred between June 1, 2007, and Aug. 29, 2012, detectives said.

The victim told authorities that the assaults occurred at different locations, including Jenkins? home and former YMCA location on South Pine Street. Sheriff?s detectives began investigating the claims earlier this month and served a warrant on Jenkins? residence.

Sheriff Chuck Wright said during an interview after Jenkins? arrest that there could be additional victims, and he encouraged them to come forward.

Anyone with information on a sexual assault is asked to call the sheriff at 864-503-4502 or Sgt. Tony Brown at 864-503-4509.
