Is there life after a successful broadcasting career?
For Dan Hurst,?who was on the radio airwaves in Kansas City for 25 years? most?as a morning?talent on KUDL?he is thriving as a minister and?bilingual voice over artist, according to a story in the Lee?s Summit Lifestyle magazine.? Hurst and his wife, Marcia, have lived in Lee?s Summit for 28 years.
?Today, while no longer a staple on Kansas City radio, Dan?s voice is still reaching audiences far and wide through commercials, video games, podcasts, phone messaging, corporate e-learning and training videos and even via the syndicated radio show, ?Midwest Today,? writes? reporter Susan Fotovich.
Hurst, who recently published his second book titled ?Broken Dreams, Shattered Lives,??was born in Texas. However, his?missionary parents moved the family to Honduras when he was just a few months old?and he became fluent in Spanish which has benefited him tremendously in his voice over business ?Dan (Daniel Eduardo) Hurst?? where he?does bilingual spots for many global companies.
Hurst worked for a Christian radio station briefly in 1984 and in 1985?accepted a job with KCMO-AM as a news reporter. Within a few months, he was given a talk show that followed the show hosted by the late broadcaster Marshall Saper. He also became the stadium announcer for the Kansas City Royals. He then?took over the afternoon slot on 93.3 and began his career in music radio.
Within a short while,?Hurst was moved to the morning show on Mix 93 with Glo Goodwin as his co-host, and?then transitioned to sister station KUDL where he?partnered with Darcie Blake in a very successful pairing. Blake left the station in 2008 after 28 years on the air.
As a Baptist minister, Hurst says he wrote his book to help people in crisis.
?Your life is not defined by your loss or failure, or even by your circumstances. Your life is defined by God?s purpose for you,? he wrote.
?God does not see you as damaged goods. He does not have a plan B for you. He knows what you are going through and is ready to restore your life to what He intended for you all along.
