Flash returns to Google Play store in UK - but not for long

Adobe has reversed its decision to remove Flash from the Google Play store, but only in the UK and only for a limited time.

The company told the BBC on Thursday that it had reinstated the Flash app on Google Play in the UK due to requests from "strategic partners", of which the BBC was one.

The BBC reported that it had requested Adobe not to pull Flash from the store just yet as it was required for its iPlayer Android app.

However, while the app is available again now, it won't be for very long. Adobe has said it will be removed "soon", and is reported to be working with the BBC on developing an alternative system for viewing content on mobiles.

Adobe removed Flash from the Google Play store on 15 August following the decision to stop developing the player for mobile devices.

Even when it is ultimately removed from the Play store, there are unofficial ways of installing the player on your device, however, performance can be unpredictable and it does leave the device potentially vulnerable to malware as there will be no future updates.
